Zero hour - The Bali bombing (2002 discovery Channel)

Matroska: MKV 350 MB
48mn 22s

A compelling program detailing the minutes leading up to the horrifying event that changed the way Australians think of our favourite holiday destination. Based on first hand witness accounts, official documents and actual footage of events. Including interviews with survivors and re-enactments of what happened in the nightclubs. For the first time a dramatised documentary about the greatest peacetime tragedy to ever hit Australia.

As hundreds of revellers enjoy a night out in a popular nightclub on Kuta Beach, Bali, members of a Malaysian Al Qaeda cell are preparing to unleash a devastating attack. At Zero Hour, dual explosions rip through the Sari club, killing more than 200 innocent holidaymakers and maiming many more. The existence of a truly global terrorist network has become a terrifying reality.

The deadly explosions that ripped through two popular nightclubs in Kuta on the Indonesian resort island of Bali have been labeled as the worst single terrorist attack since September 11. The Bali bombings killed 202 people and injured more than 300.

The horror started when a small bomb hidden in the backpack of a suicide bomber ripped through Paddy's Bar. The injured immediately fled into the street – exactly what the masterminds of the operation planned. A few seconds later, a second much more powerful 1,000kg bomb, concealed in a white van, was detonated in front of the Sari Club.

Dozens of victims were burned beyond recognition or simply blown to pieces by the power of the massive blasts. The local hospital was unable to cope with the number of injured. The final death toll was 202, mostly holiday-makers in their 20s and 30s who were in the two bars.

More than 300 people suffered horrific burns and other injuries. The largest group among those killed were 88 holiday-makers from Australia. The Bali bombing is sometimes called "Australia's September 11".
